You will need:
1. DVD Shrink (freeware)
2. Handbrake (freeware)
Step 1
Download and install both applications linked above. If you have trouble installing them, please post in the appropriate section of the forum and it will be sorted out accordingly.
Step 2
We will now create a copy of the DVD to work with.
Insert the DVD you want to convert and open DVD Shrink. Once Shrink opens, select File > Open Disc.

Once the little window opens, choose the drive with the DVD in it and press OK.

DVD Shrink will now analyse the DVD. Depending on the speed of your computer, it could take a few minutes.

Once the analysis has finished, you will see a window similar to this:

One the top row, you will notice a button called Backup, press it. A window similar to this opens up.

Choose ISO as the backup target and a location where it will be easy for you to find and click OK. DVD Shrink will now begin copying your DVD to your HDD. Again, depending on the speed of your computer, this may take a while; have a cup of coffee while you wait.

Step 3
Once DVD Shrink has finished copying the DVD, you can close it and remove the DVD from the drive. We will now convert the file to a format which iPods recognise. For this we use Handbrake.
Open Handbrake, press the source button near the top left of screen and choose Video File.

Locate and open the ISO file just created by DVD Shrink. Handbrake will analyse the file for a while. Once the buttons become available, you are almost ready to convert. Check to make sure Handbrake has chosen the correct title (usually the one with the longest running time is the correct title). Click the browse button next to the destination field and type in a name for your file, then press save and finally select iPod from the preset menu on the right. That's it, click the start button and away it goes.

A command window will now open showing you the progress of the job. Wait till it reaches 100%, after which you can delete the .iso file from your HDD.
You can now add the m4v file to iTunes as you would any song, iTunes will take a moment to add it and it should appear in your Movies section automatically. You can now enjoy your movie on the go
